Local Intervention Fire Education (LIFE)

LIFE is an intensive five-day course facilitated by FRS and firefighters at operational fire stations. The programme offers young people between the ages of 13 and 17 the opportunity to learn new skills as well as building on existing ones.

The course is based on the role of the firefighter and participants take part in a range of activities from using ladders, casualty rescue techniques, wearing breathing apparatus and first aid. In addition to this participants are given information on fire safety, prevention, consequences and healthy living.

The course culminates in a pass-out parade where the young people demonstrate the skills they have learned during the week to their families and carers.
